Idea #11 from the EYE2018 Report
The EU should invest more in technology applied to the cultural and artistic fields, starting with public museums, to make the experience more inclusive for users. The use of new technologies, in fact, would change the way we visit, explore and learn in traditional museums, making people passionate about culture. Bots are already being used in some museums so that people, in particular young people, can be guided and learn about art and history in a fun way. This could be developed and taken to the next level. I dream of a future where in museums, AI and virtual reality enable visitors to directly interact with historical characters, or plunge into a painting, for instance. In order to support investment in these technologies, part of the traditional tourist taxes, for example from hotels, could be devoted to fund these museums.
1. Why and how would this idea benefit young people?
2. Which groups in society would be impacted by this idea, and how can their different interests be accommodated?
3. What would be the practical steps to implement this idea in your town, your region, your country and/or at the level of the EU?
