Idea from Europe Kids Want
Every child has a right to education and health, but today this is not guaranteed to all children living in Europe. Children from disadvantaged families are much more likely to fall behind, and particularly migrant children. Other vulnerable groups also suffer from similar disparities, such as children with disabilities or Roma children just to name some.
As signatories of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), it is for the Member States to guarantee the access to these rights. The EU could support this call and encourage countries to invest in preventing illness and inequalities that affect children. Additional services can help children who live in difficult situations, such as migrant children, to have equal opportunities with national children (as for instance language classes, mental health support, etc.). Investment in extending and improving social services for children in vulnerable situations means improving services for all children.
How do we make sure that health and education services reach all children regardless who they are, where they live or where they come from?
1. Why and how would this idea benefit young people?
2. Which groups in society would be impacted by this idea, and how can their different interests be accommodated?
3. What would be the practical steps to implement this idea in your town, your region, your country and/or at the level of the EU ?
