Idea #49 from EYE2018 Report

There should be an annual question and answer session between the heads of the European Parliament, Commission and Council, which could be livestreamed on various social media outlets such as Facebook Live. Questions could come from young people across Europe, and be put to the EU leaders by a select group of young people. This would have the following advantages:

- If promoted well on social media, reach new audiences.

- Help promote the institutions of the EU and provide greater accessibility.

- Show that the EU cares what young people have to say.

- If organised in collaboration with youth organisations, ensure a top-to-bottom youth focused event

In my opinion, this tool is very useful because it would put young Europeans in direct contact with parliamentary leaders and in this way the growing disinterest of this group towards European institutions could be avoided. In this way, young people can consult doubts, raise problems, even solutions to these problems. It is not only an advantage for young people it is also beneficial for the EU. One way to carry out this proposal will be the creation of a platform on the Internet through which young people can translate those doubts or requests. Another way would be the elaboration of surveys in universities, a collective or association of students appointed for that purpose in each university would be responsible for collecting data through surveys to know the concerns of young people and from the data obtained in these surveys could be elaborate a series of questions and publish them in some way (perhaps from a mobile application) so that each person can vote for the questions that they think are the most important and that later they will be sent to the parliamentarians. Finally, it is very important to point out that this Q&A session should be retransmitted live through an online platform such as a page created for that purpose, through the Facebook tool to broadcast live or through Instagram with the same tool. I also believe that it is important to publicize this initiative to ensure that it reaches as many young people as possible and arouses its interest.

1. Why and how would this idea benefit young people? Because we –my mates of the group– ask other college mates that we to the European Parliament and if the would like to ask something to the European Deputies. All of them have the motivation to ask and are motivated to propose questions to the Parliamentarians. I think that the Parliamentarians are not connected with the real necessities of the young people. If there was a platform to bring both parties together, satisfaction would necessarily be generated for both. The young people around me would feel heard and hope for the work of the European Parliament. The solution: create a platform that can connect both of them: young people and Parliamentarians. The objective is to create a network that connects all young people and, at the same time, connects them with the European Institutions. 2. Which groups in society would be impacted by this idea, and how can their different interests be accommodated? All young people who have a device with internet access can benefit, all young people will be able to communicate with the European Institutions. If everyone is connected individually, they can send their concerns without barriers. 3. What would be the practical steps to implement this idea in your town, your region, your country and/or at the level of the EU? Only a mobile phone, all the young Europeans that have one of them can stay connected with the new conexión with the Parlament, Commission and Council. The proposal if the same for all Europe, a special platform with particularities that allow everyone to be heard with just a mobile phone.
